In the spirit of my recent Goth research I came across an old fav song of mine.
As I find this culture the most recent (historically) I have ever come to love, and as most of the friends I ever had were either death metal to the bone, or punk, or sort of rock, I have experienced a lot of ugly comments about it. It's actually the metal people that are the most rude, since they seem to consider music as some holly thing. They always speak badly about drum machines, and manage to bring up the word "riff" more than 3 times in one sentence. Whenever the discussion spanned over gothic music, the only one in favor as I was, I used to crawl in my corner, laugh a bit, and agree that gothic music is no music at all and that gothic culture is only about make-up and clothes.
I was never obsessed with music. I am no musician, and I definitely don't worship musicians as if they were gods, but having heard a lot of different sounds, I can tell you this: Gothic music is as lame as heavy metal. Or as empowering, depending on how you see it. There is no "better" sound, you either like it or not. But no! Whenever someone wants to dress up to perform he is a poser. Well, if that's so, then rock and metal scenes are equally as full with posers and guess what.. many of them go by the names of the bands you like.
Some nights ago, one of my closest friends, who is a jazz lover, turned off the radio when the rock station that we were tuned in started playing depeche mode. I asked her why she did that and she said she didn't like the song.
Yes, people, when you don't like the song, you turn it off! You don't start making ironic comments, because, I am sorry to tell you, but your music is no better!
There, I said it, now we can be friends again, right? :)
Oh, and since this is supposed to be a blog dedicated to the 7th art, I saw Poison (1991) yesterday. It was very interesting!
