Evil back from '85

"They don't make 'em like they used to" is the opening line of the reviewer that convinced me to watch The House of the Devil. It is set in 1983. The sets, the clothes, the atmosphere even the rhythm is 80's, but believe it or not, this is a 2009 movie. It kind of brought up old memories, but not that old, of course.
Just a decade ago, when still in high-school we had this thriller frenzy with a friend of mine. It was the "Scream" and "I know what you did last summer" times back then. They kept making these films and we kept watching. So one day (one night actually, you know with parents gone, midnight, movies, pop-corn etc) after having watched everything that the video-club had of this kind, we didn't have any other choice but to rent something more retro. We got the '81 Halloween II (not that we had seen I) and a voodoo-something that I can't even remember the title. The mood, the atmosphere, the rhythm, they were all in accordance with their time. So, what do you believe eventually happened? Why, we fell asleep of course, somewhere near the end of the first one. I somehow knew that the voodoo-thingie would not stand any chance with our VCR.
